Growth in construction in the eurozone reached a two-year high in February

In February, an increase in construction volumes of 3% was recorded in the eurozone compared to the previous month, when they decreased by 0.8%, Eurostat reported. This was the highest increase since February 2017. Compared with the same month of 2018, the figure rose by 5.2% after a decline of 0.1% a month earlier. The largest annual growth - by 6.4% - was shown by civil construction, while the growth in the volume of construction of other objects increased by 2.1%. Eurostat data also indicated a 2.3% increase in construction volumes in EU countries compared to January and 4.9% compared with the same month a year earlier. Over the month, the index rose the most in Slovenia, an increase of 11.9%. The annual growth rate was the most significant in Hungary, where construction volumes jumped 48.1%. A decline in monthly terms was observed in Spain, the Czech Republic and Finland. In annual terms, the figure fell in Spain and France.
